My walking companion Katie

I’ve picked up a travelling companion.

For those of you who followed my hike across Spain, you will undoubtedly remember Alberto.

Two days before I hiked across the Pyrenees and down in to Spain, I broke my body.

I somehow caused an impinged nerve in my neck which created a sharp pain under my shoulder blade, down my arm and running in to my fingers.

It felt pretty bad and probably, I should have just called an end to the trip.

I didn’t though.

Instead I named the pain Alberto and embraced my constant companion until I was back home and had access to extensive physio, with Alberto never to be seen again.

I think now there might be a theme running through my life.

‘Let’s do something difficult and make it MORE difficult by being injured!”

Yay!

Well, let me introduce you to Katie.

I started this hike with a weird pain in my hip which I have been stretching out and managing as best I can.

It has now spread across my lower back, down my leg, my knee, calf and down into my toes. It is reasonably painful and I struggle with some ascents, particularly if the next foot placement is high as I have trouble raising my leg.

Thank goodness for hiking poles which have really helped.

A couple of times I have had to shed my pack and throw it ahead up the track as I don’t have the power in my hip to haul both my bum and my pack up a rise.

So now I am walking the TA with Katie.

Katie. Named after Katherine Hepburn. I am in New Zealand. I have a sore hip. What else could I call it?

Ahahaha. I have laughed about this for days! (Just shows how little else is in my head)
