Day 64 Zero in Wellington

I caught the news last night. I had no idea how bad the fires are. It looked like all of Australia is on fire. The losses are terrible and impact everyone. I hope you are all safe and out of harms way. *** It was good to make it to Wellington yesterday. It was a chance to connect with my family and catch up on all their happenings. I’ve been away now for only two months but it feels so much longer. I’m having a zero today to have a look around and then head to the PO tomorrow to pick up some gear I had sent ahead and to collect a letter my good mate Fi had sent post restante. I was enormously excited by this. I don’t know about you but I rarely receive an actual letter! How thoughtful, thanks mate x Anyway. Back to Wellington. What a delightful city. I had originally planned a few zeros here with another good friend travelling over from Australia but we have resorted to plan b after I found I couldn’t lock in an eta so she could book her flight. I’ve done so now and we are likely to spend time here after I finish the South Island. I really like Wellington and Wellingtonians! What a friendly bunch. And what a colourful, vibrant city. It is multicultural. And subcultural. Full of life, energy, music, art, museums. The harbour is a great place to people watch. Cuba st is an even better spot. There are heaps of cafes, bars, and craft breweries. Street art is supported and abounds in laneways, factory walls and people’s houses! I spent a great day wandering about, absorbing it all. I am really looking forward to spending a decent chunk of time here. So much so, I might even make this a destination spot for another holiday!

Indeed.
