A really short day today, pulled up before lunch.
I didn’t really want to stop for a zero again so soon after Auckland but Katie needed a bit of break. Does a half zero count?
This side of the Waipa River spins me on to the Te Aea cycle path/walkway which leads me through a riverside reserve.
Directly across from me is the Turangawaewae Marae, a very significant Marae for Maori people as it is the official residence and reception centre of the head of the Kingtana (the Maori King movement).
The Marae is open only one day a year during the annual regatta. It’s located right at the junction of two great rivers, the Waikato and Waipa.
The sacred Taupiri Mountain, the Waikato’s most significant Maori burial ground, maintains a silent vigil over it all.
No photos today. It just didn’t feel respectful.
